The unique FAM process, which requires no fixturing, clamping, or chuckling of parts, is also ideal for applications involving thin, or hard-to-hold parts, brittle materials, and parts sensitive to thermal distortion from heat built-up common to other types of machining. Maintaining wheel flatness without production loss The key to the operation of free-abrasive machining is the flatness of the FAM wheel. The parts will take a mirror image of the wheel surface. Positive geared flatness control of the machining plate is an exclusive, built-in feature on all machines. This control provides wheel flatness maintenance with no loss in productivity, even under long running cycles and full free-abrasive machining pressures.
