This old-established company, with its headquarters in Salach / Baden-Württemberg, has been showing continued growth both on the domestic and on foreign markets. In 2007 the Group was able to increase its turnover by 17%, to 480 million Euro, surpassing its stated target by a considerable margin. What customers in the automotive industry – and to an ever greater degree those outside it – find most attractive about EMAG is the fact that the company offers the latest technological advances in turning, drilling, milling, grinding, gear cutting and laser welding under a single roof. The surge continues on the export market The consistent adaptation of their portfolio of know-how to the latest technological trends pays dividends for its worldwide clientele. The larger part of EMAG’s turnover is now generated on the export markets. In response to this development, the Group will be opening new subsidiaries in Eastern Europe, Russia, India and China this year. The success of EMAG’s strategy lies in the fact that the medium-sized corporation with its 1,900 staff can still react to customer requirements with great flexibility and with close attention to the long term prospect. After all, its clients are looking first and foremost for answers to the crucial question of how to best improve their output and the quality of their production – and to do so with reliable, space-saving machinery that will not let them down, even after many years of use. Since the Group’s chief executive, Norbert Heßbrüggen, set new standards in the market with his invention of the vertical turning machine in 1992, the company has used its technological advantage to successively increase its share in both the premium and the growth market segments. EMAG is the world’s most important manufacturer of CNC vertical turning machines. Superior know-how secures leading market position The Group’s clever strategy of continuous expansion has brought about enormous growth, with its turnover having more than doubled since 2000. Within the last two years the Group was able to record a 30% increase in its customer base. In fact, EMAG is now Europe’s third- and the world’s twelfth-largest manufacturer of metal cutting machines. There are now hardly any metal cutting applications for which the EMAG Group cannot offer a suitable machine. The 200 current patents held by the Group are joined by new ones every year. The advantage this superior know-how provides is being used to help customers to increase the output level and the quality of their production. The EMAG Group and its subsidiaries are able to offer a large range of solutions from standard machine to tailor-made manufacturing system, leading to the generation of yet more growth. The term “manufacturing solutions” used to conjure up a picture of manufacturing systems for the mass production. Today, the manufacturers of medium-size component batches also want “solutions from a single source”. Thanks to their multitude of machining and automation technologies and their extensive know-how in process design the EMAG Group is ideally placed to handle such demands. The company now offers its customers machines that incorporate a number of different machining technologies.A vital factor in the EMAG Group’s success is the company’s investment in its workforce. Whilst the overall employment figures in this branch of the industry have continued to shrink since the mid-90s, the EMAG Group has during the same period enlarged its workforce. Around ten percent of its employees are apprentices and trainees (over 170 in January 2008), all to be given full employment once they have successfully completed their training. Extensive advanced training programmes and a constant exchange of know-how within the company ensure that every EMAG employee is capable of the kind of lateral thinking that allows them to offer the customer innovative, well-engineered solutions to their manufacturing problems. Beyond that, the Group’s chief executive, Norbert Heßbrüggen, has also set the future course for management and established a competent, long-term orientated board of directors consisting of production, sales and financial experts. This provides an all important foundation for further economic growth and a yardstick for success and profitability.
