Whiting Corporation Facilities Whiting Corporation, a major manufacturer of overhead cranes, foundry equipment and rail transportation maintenance equipment is now located in Monee, Illinois. Whitings new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility was built in 2000 and covers 197,000 square feet. Of this total, 169,000 sq. ft. is devoted to manufacturing 28,000 sq ft. is comprised of corporate office area. Layout of the facility allows for future expansion. It is located on a 23-acre site just off Interstate 57. The building in Monee also houses the headquarters and a regional office for Whiting Services, Inc., which specializes in the maintenance and inspection of overhead traveling cranes of all manufacturers and of other Whiting equipment. For all the products Whiting manufactures, and for other brands of similar equipment, Whiting and Whiting Services provide replacement parts and services, including on-site repairs, installations, inspections, training and modernizations. Until the new facility began operation in 2000, Whiting Corporation was located in Harvey Illinois, about 16 miles from its current location in Monee, Illinois. The original Whiting Corporation was founded in 1884 by Mr. John Hill Whiting as the Detroit Foundry Equipment Company in Detroit, Michigan. In 1893, Whiting moved to Harvey, Illinois, and changed its name to Whiting Foundry Equipment company. In 1920, the name became Whiting Corporation.
